Introduction

The objective of this trip was first and foremost a pragmatic one: transferring my Unimog truck from Germany to Oman so that I can finish fitting out the inside for a future sabbatical trip most likely to South America exploring all the good kite surfing spots in a few years to come…well thats the plan, we’ll see….

Then of course by doing that, visit and see old friends and family as much as I can along the way, make new friends, see beautiful landscapes, find some adventure and just have fun.

I started on the 18th September in Germany and arrived the 31st of October in Muscat, Oman.

I crossed and/or at least transited to some extent 13 countries: Germany, Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iran, UAE, and Oman.

I drove about 9000 kms and used ca. 1620 liters of diesel and 3 liters of engine oil. My average speeds were: Central Europe ca. 75 to 85 km/h with around 90 km/h on the highways and in the Pindos mountains about 35'; Turkey ca. 65 to 75 km/h and much much lower in the mountains; Iran 40 to 50 km/h, only some days just above 60km/h, and in UAE and Oman about 80 km/h as I was only on highways.

The longest distance I drove in one day was 500+ km, the shortest 12 km, and mainly around 200 to 300 km. Only a few days I did not drive at all.

I took about 1500 pictures, (about 850 of the truck and 2 of myself ;-)

I slept in a hotel only once (Bandar Abbas) and never stayed on a camping place. The only stomach bug that got me was probably Chinese from the dragon mall in Dubai just before arriving home ;-).
